Power management
The Android music player organises your tunes well though there’s no option to access the equaliser directly from the track you’re playing to get the sound just how you want it. You’ll probably want to upgrade the tinny sounding headphones from the 3.5mm jack or Bluetooth. HTC’s rather fine FM radio is on board too.
Heavy users will need to exploit energy saving tweaks to get beyond a day without a recharge
The Desire Z comes with 1.5GB of memory already on board and you can expand that by up to 32GB with a microSD card. Sad to say, the battery life isn’t among the Desire Z’s many strong points and I found that I barely got a full day of heavy use out of it before it needed a recharge. Fortunately, you can stretch the battery use out by dimming the screen, reducing FriendStream and other power-saving tricks.
Verdict
If you’ve got roomy pockets, the HTC Desire Z is worth making room for thanks to its fine screen and extremely capable keyboard. HTC’s Sense adds value to Android and it’s packed with enough features to keep it in the running at the head of the smart phone pack. ®
