SeeSaw streams UK TV through Boxee

US IPTV platform gains UK content

Boxee, the US-based IPTV platform, has now got some UK-oriented content courtesy of UK telly-on-demand provider SeeSaw.

SeeSaw has begun a "test service" on Boxee, which can be downloaded and installed a wide variety of kit from computers to old-style Apple TVs - or on D-Link's Boxee set-top box. The Boxee UI is designed to be viewed on a TV. It's based on the open source XBMC media centre app.

That's good for SeeSaw, which is otherwise only available using a regular web browser. SeeSaw's owner, Arqiva, is part of the YouView consortium in the hope that this would-be UK IPTV standard will get SeeSaw off of computers and onto tellies.

Boxee currently hosts many US content services, including Netflix, Vudu and Mubi.

As a test offering, SeeSaw on Boxee is only accessible through the latter's search system. Just "search for a programme that you know we have on SeeSaw... This will take you directly to the SeeSaw player page", SeeSaw says.

Only the service's free, ad-supported content is available. It's rental and ads-free subscription packages are not present on Boxee.

Arqive has said it is looking for a strategic investor to take a stake in SeeSaw and fund the service's expansion. ®
