Want grant money for programming?

There’s an app for that ...

Australia’s New South Wales Government is ramping up efforts to make the state of NSW the digital capital of Australia.

Calling for submissions under the Collaborative Solutions program, part of the NSW Government's $36 million Digital Economy Strategy, the government will stump up AUS$6 million to stimulate the development of innovative mobile and wireless solutions for the tourism and retail sectors.

The programme will offer $2 million per year for the next three years. The grants will normally be limited to 35 per cent of total project costs, with an upper limit of $250,000. Those most likely to score will be consortiums that include mobile app developers, technology and service providers, device manufacturers, research organisations, and user organisations.

Applications for this round will be accepted until 25 March. Treasurer and Minister for State and Regional Development Eric Roozendaal said that further initiatives will focus on other industry sectors and may include new ICT technologies such as cloud computing and ubiquitous high-speed broadband.

Applicants may have to move fast, with a March election likely to topple the current NSW state government. ®
