110 naturists look for friendly farmer

A group of Surrey naturists is looking for an accommodating farmer, after their landlord refused to renew the lease on their old site.

The Surrey Downs Sun Club leased their site from a holiday and residential company, which has decided to expand its own facilities at the Farley Green site, the Surrey Advertiser reports.

The 70 year old club has 110 members, and had built chalets and a club house at the old site, where they enjoyed lawns overlooking the Surrey Downs and access to "a wooded bank which bursts with bluebells and other wildflowers in Spring and early summer."

“We have had carpenters and electricians at the club so we built it ourselves," a spokesman told the paper.

“Many of our children and grandchildren grew up at Surrey Downs and continue to be naturists. It’s a way of life in a way, and a healthy one. There is nothing untoward that goes on."

The club is looking for a an acre or so of land in Surrey to call home, as visiting other clubs just didn't cut it for its members, the spokesman told the Surrey Ad.

"We are going to advertise in Farmers Weekly to see if there is a farmer who would welcome some extra income.”

The eviction of the Surrey Downs Sun Club is another turn of the screw for nudists in the UK's most wooded county. Last September the 300-strong White House Club in Caterham reacted with fury to plans to erect a tower block overlooking their grounds. ®
