UK.gov closes door against foreign boners

Still short of doctors, nurses and scientists

The UK government has declared the country has quite enough boners, and has pulled up the drawbridge against any foreign boners wishing to immigrate.

The Home Office announced today that following a Migration Advisory Council's recommendation, it had removed eight job titles from the "shortage occupation list". This is part of an effort to ensure Tier 2 of the shortage skills list meets or exceeds National Qualifications Framework Level 4.

The committee recommended that skilled meat boners, skilled meat trimmers, high integrity pipe welders and skilled senior care workers should all be taken off the Tier 2 list for the points-based system, along with airframe fitters, and site supervisors in the 'leccy industry. Sheep shearers and skilled work riders have also been given the chop.

It would seem that a number of job titles remain on the shortage list, despite still not meeting NQF4 or above, including engineering technician and electrical engineer roles, overhead lines worker, and a range of photo/AV jobs.

Other roles in the tier 2 list include physicists, chemists, assorted engineering roles, doctors, nurses, and of course, dancers and choreographers.

It would seem then the UK is full to bursting with computer specialists. More details here. ®
