Sony readies official PS Move support for PCs

Call to cull Kinect development?

Sony has paved the way for developers to use its PlayStation Move technology as an input device, with the launch of an official SDK.

Move.me is an software server application, designed for academics, college students, HCI developers or anyone with a programming interest. Sony says it wants to see how people can take the PS Move beyond gaming, and looks forward to seeing tools developed in areas such as fitness, rehabilitation, learning and the creative industry.

Developers will be able to use the PS Move controller, the PS3 system, the PlayStation Eye camera, and a PC, in their quest to build innovative applications.

Unlike Microsoft - which was prompted into the release of an official Kinect SDK by the hackers that tore Kinect apart and released one first - Sony has appeared more forthcoming. Although would anyone dare unofficially tap into the Move hardware after what is happening to those who've hacked the PS3 console?

Move.me will be available for download on PlayStation network this spring. It is possible to get one sooner though, if you fill out the form on Sony's Move.me webpage.

Are there ulterior motives to such a release - a smidgin of competitiveness perhaps? ®
