Amazon beefs up cloud management console
Scale up, scale down? You decide
Amazon has plonked a few more features into the EC2 tab of its AWS management console, in an effort it claimed would make the system easier to use and, at the same time, much gutsier.
"You can now change the instance type of a stopped, EBS-backed EC2 instance. This means that you can scale up or scale down as your needs change," said the company in a blog post yesterday.
The online book seller and cloud vendor said that the features would slightly hamper users who want to switch between 32-bit and 64-bit processing on the Amazon Web Services console.
"The new instance type must be compatible with the AMI that you used to boot the instance," it said.
A key change to the console allows users to control what happens when an EBS (Elastic Block Storage)-backed instance shuts itself down, either by stopping or terminating the instance, said Amazon. ®
