Lenovo offers schools Intel Classmate PC

Nice-looking netbook for nippers

Lenovo has begun pitching the latest incarnation of Intel's Classmate PC, a netbook for nippers.

Inside the rather natty casing sits a 1.8GHz Atom N455 processor - not the latest of the line - 1GB of memory, a 250GB hard drive - solid state storage is optional - 10/100Mb/s Ethernet and 2.4GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi.

The Classmate+ comes with the usual 10in, 1024 x 600 screen, three USB 2.0 ports, 1.3Mp webcam, VGA output and an SD slot. It runs Windows 7 Starter.

Lenovo said the machine is available right now, worldwide. It didn't say how much the Classmate+ costs - that depends on how many a school or college chooses to avail itself of.

So if you want one, you'll have to ask teacher. ®
