Firefox 4 gets yet another final test build release

Mozilla squeezed out a second Release Candidate version of Firefox 4 over the weekend, just days before the open source outfit's planned final browser code splurge on 22 March.

Originally, Mozilla expected to go directly from just one Release Candidate version of Firefox 4 before finalising the build for everyone to download.

"Two issues popped up ... which have caused us to take two very small, very isolated fixes in order to better protect Firefox 4 users. These fixes will be included in Firefox 4 RC2 for Windows, OSX and Linux (which should be available tomorrow) and Firefox 4 RC1 for Android," wrote the organisation's outgoing director Mike Beltzner late last week.

"There is no change required to our schedule. We still expect to release the final version of Firefox 4 for Windows, OSX and Linux on March 22nd as planned."

Firefox RC1 was pumped out on 9 March, while RC2 was released on 19 March.

So sit tight – we should be seeing the final code tomorrow, which will showcase Mozilla's JaegerMonkey Javascript engine extension, include additional hardware acceleration, and allow coders to build plug-in-free 3D graphics via WebGL. ®
