Equinix to host new traders’ exchange

Chi-X bound for Botany Mascot

Chi-X Australia, the exchange granted a licence to compete with the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), has announced that Equinix will host its primary Australian data centre.

Equinix has two data centres in the Sydney suburb of Mascot, and is building a third. The location is popular among data centre operators, with Sydney's nearby airport attracting plenty of electricity capacity, and nearby cable landing stations ensuring plenty of fibre networks handy.

Chi-X Australia, a subsidiary of Chi-X Global, is preparing to launch trading services in Q4. It's widely hailed – well, among business writers, anyhow – as a harbinger of high-velocity trading in Australia, in which journalists that don’t like physics believe picosecond trading is just around the corner.

The company says securing the hosting deal means it can now start to work with partners to "address their proximity hosting requirements and network connectivity needs". ®
