Our piece last week on the US RadioShack franchises who are handing out free guns with satellite TV packages prompted an email from the provider in question, Dish Network.
The Dish Network's corporate communications operative, Alisa Meyer, wanted be certain readers understood the company is not itself involved in the promotion, which is entirely an initiative by the Idaho and Montana RadioShack franchisees.
The official statement reads: "Dish Network is not providing any marketing or advertising support for any promotions relating to firearms, and we require our retailers to adhere to all local, state and federal laws in connection with their promotions and marketing activities."
Quite right too. As far as we're aware, the giveaway doesn't breach any local or national laws, and as John Marshall of the RadioShack franchise in Mountain Home, Idaho, put it: "There's no problem with it here; this isn't New York City." ®
