Apple shuts online Apple Store

iMac refresh imminent?

Apple's online store is currently down awaiting an update which, it's widely believed, will centre on new iMacs based on Intel's second-generation Core i processor platform, aka Sandy Bridge.

Rumours to that effect hit the net last week, but with Sandy Bridge-based MacBook Pro notebooks out since March - check out our reviews of the 13in and 15in models - it takes no great leap of the imagination to forecast Sandy Bridge iMacs.

Apple's all-on-one desktops are, after all, largely based on laptop tech.

iMacs have become harder to find of late, which points to a refresh, and a Mac Rumours source last week said Apple's shops will gain new promo materials today - just what you'd expect to accompany such a major roll-out.

Will bring you more details when we get them. ®
