Oz paper in todger-based trivia quiz outrage

'What is the official currency of Vietnam?'

Oz's Canberra Times proved unusually entertaining last Wednesday when its 10-question "Trivia Quiz" offered readers the chance to brush up on their todger-related general knowledge.

The first poser was: "Which private detective has been played by Richard Roundtree and Samuel L Jackson...?"

Yup, you've got it. Try this: "What is the official currency of Vietnam?"

And how about: "Which British musician released the album Every Picture Tells a Story in 1971?"

The climax of this tomfoolery came with question 10, which asked: "Which American novelist wrote the sci-fi novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

According to the Lucky Country's ABC, someone at an outfit called Pagemasters is responsible for the outrage. The Canberra Times' owner Fairfax Media recently axed 80 sub-editors and outsourced their work to the company.

Timothy Campbell, Pagemasters managing editor, explained: "An individual ... in our Puzzles typesetting department circumvented the usual checking procedures and has been dismissed."

For the record, here are the remaining answers, for which Reg readers can doubtless provide the corresponding questions:

  • Wang River
  • Cyclops
  • Lyndon B Johnson
  • Woody Woodpecker
  • Peter
  • The spine
