Hundreds arrested in Far Eastern online scam crackdown
Lads From Jakarta, Taipei etc cuffed in crossborder busts
Almost 600 people have been arrested across the Far East in co-ordinated raids against a network of online fraudsters.
Arrests were made in China, Taiwan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand late last week.
Indonesia has already deported 101 people back to Taiwan.
The scammers mostly tricked mainland Chinese victims using Voip and other internet services.
Taiwan's chief of police said the raids would deal a major blow to fraud gangs. 800 Taiwanese police raided premises on the island and seized cash, AFP reports.
The 37 people arrested in Malaysia were tricking people into paying fake traffic fines.
The gangs have been driven from Taiwan following co-operation with mainland Chinese police forces.
Indonesian police arrested Chinese and Taiwanese nationals at 15 addresses. ®
