Mozy puffs out pocket cloud for iPad, Android et al

Mozying along to a showdown with iCloud, Dropbox

Mozy has built iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android apps so UK users can access their backed up data stored in the Mozy cloud.

Using the apps on these handheld devices, or logging on securely to www.mozy.co.uk from any internet-connected device, users can access their MozyHome/MozyPro backed up data from anywhere with a mobile phone, Wi-Fi or wired internet connection.

Mozy said it can do this because of a major upgrade to its European platform. The mobile device apps have support for photo previewing, file download and file sharing. There is an enhanced restore service coming, with Mozy stating: "Users will be able to access more powerful searching, one-click download, 30-day-version viewing, and consolidated file transfer, for faster restores."

The company also said it had recently launched the beta trial of its synchronisation functionality, which it expects to make available soon. According to a cached Google search page, this will be called Mozy Stash and is a Dropbox competitor. It will also compete with Apple's iCloud when that comes out.

Here's what the cached page says about it:

When you install Stash on your computer, it links a local Stash folder with your online Stash. Add a file to the local Stash folder, and almost instantly you can securely access it from the Mozy website or mobile app. If you have more than one computer, Stash keeps each of your linked computers up to date with your latest changes.

That sounds like Dropbox to a T. ®
