Counter-Strike sequel aims for 2012 target

Back with a bang

FPS fans will no doubt be shooting off in excitement today after news broke that Valve is readying a new Counter-Strike game.

Speculation has been rife across t'interweb boards, after witnesses came forth claiming to have spent the day at the Valve HQ, having cast their eyes on the developer's next title - Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

News soon surfaced on the EDEA.net Facecrack page promising "more info in the morning."

The Twitterscape was subsequently brimming with comments. ESL Pro manager Bastian Vieser said:

"Just spend all day playing the new Counterstrike Global Offensive #CSGO at the #Valve HQ ! God I love my job.”

Rumours have been floating around for a while now that Valve was gearing up a new CS title, but nothing was very official.

While there's little indication whether this Global Offensive is a brand new entry in the series or yet another add-on, there are a few facts released publicly.

For starters, Global Offensive is planned for release in Q1 2012. It'll run on an updated source engine, focus on 5v5 competition, and include new guns, grenades and free ammo.
