Australian banks may soon be rolling out new video-enabled ATMs which allow consumers to video-chat "live" with remote bank tellers.
The manufacturer of the video terminals, NCR Corporation, has confirmed that a "major Australian financial institution" is currently preparing for a consumer trial.
"One Australian financial institution with a reputation for innovation is preparing to start a VTM pilot in the next few weeks," said Ross Checkley, managing director of NCR in South Pacific.
NCR APTRA interactive teller technology allows customers to see and speak to live tellers via touch screens 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Once connected by video link, consumers can conduct a range of in-branch transactions, such as depositing cash or cheques without an envelope, paying a bill, opening an account or even initiating a loan.
"ATM video banking can help banks and credit unions provide easier access to banking services in remote communities where staffing can often be a challenge, and without the significant expense of building a traditional bricks-and-mortar store. In metropolitan areas, NCR video ATMs can provide personalised service in shopping centres, business parks and on college campuses," Checkley added. ®
