CA inks £45m Tesco IT deal
Taming the heterogeneous infrastructure. Mmm
Supermarket behemoth Tesco has announced that US-based CA Technologies will take care of its IT network across the whole group.
As well as your fruit and veg and the like, the £45m deal will see CA cast its eye over Tesco Group luminaries including Tesco Bank, Tesco Mobile and Tesco.com.
The company will manage and monitor "the health and performance of the IT supply chain, including mainframe, desktop computers, servers, networks, credit card transactions, suppliers and supply orders".
"Our systems infrastructure needs to work for our IT team in order to do their job for our customers, our colleagues and our suppliers. We rely on CA Technologies software to tame a very big, distributed, heterogeneous infrastructure," said Mike McNamara, Tesco's CIO.
British-born Tesco is one of the world's largest retailers with operations in 14 countries and more than 492,000 employees. Recent growth in the UK has been stunted by the twin recessional woes of high inflation and muted pay rises, with like-for-like sales in the 13 weeks to 28 May growing just 0.1 per cent excluding fuel and VAT. Worldwide group sales excluding petrol in the same period were up by 6.7 per cent. ®
