SAP snaps up Kiwi software firm

Processing Right Hemisphere

SAP is giving its business intelligence (BI) capabilities a boost with the acquisition of Right Hemisphere, a New Zealand 3D software vendor.

Right Hemisphere makes software for manufacturers to visualise business processes and SAP aims to add these technologies to core products. The software giant said the Kiwi firm will help SAP "set a new standard in helping companies achieve more efficiency, accuracy and flexibility".

Michael Lynch, Right Hemisphere's CEO, said: "The combination of SAP’s vast set of business information and Right Hemisphere’s visualisation capabilities will change the way businesses of any size create, manage and deliver products and services across their enterprise and their supply chain."

SAP will also integrate the enterprise visualisation technology assets from Right Hemisphere into its mobile technologies, allowing business users to access visual images of products on a variety of mobile devices.

Based in Auckland, Right Hemisphere employs about 50 staff and also has an office in San Ramon, California. The company is privately held and has received a controversial interest-free loan from the New Zealand government as well as VC funding from Sequoia Capital, Sutter Hill Ventures, SAP Ventures, NVIDIA and Munich Venture Partners.

The purchase price is undisclosed and the deal is yet to complete. But Right Hemisphere says it will pay back the loan in full. ®
