Systemax fills hole left by shamed US boss

David Sprosty to don the cursed hat of Fiorentino

Systemax has hired former Best Buy exec David Sprosty as the CEO of its Technology Products division in North America, finally filling the role that was vacated by shamed exec Gilbert Fiorentino earlier in the year.

The responsibilities were assumed on a short-term basis by Systemax vice-chairman Robert Leeds after long-serving big cheese Fiorentino was suspended in April following whistleblower allegations relating to the company's Miami operations.

Fiorentino resigned the following month and remains the subject of an SEC investigation into the matters surrounding his departure from the firm, which owns the Misco, WStore, Tiger Direct and CompUSA brands.

CEO Richard Leeds said that Sprosty - previously CEO at Best Buy Mobile and managing partner at retail consultancy The ROIG Group - expected the addition to beef up the Tech Products Group.

"We believe the technology group will continue to execute on its current initiatives and grow into an even stronger contender within the consumer and business-to-business electronics sectors," said Leeds. ®
