Asus names Eee Slider release date
Tablet-cum-netbook comes to Blighty
Asus' Eee PC Slider - described by the company as a tablet, but really a hybrid device - goes on sale in the UK next week.
First demo'd way back in March 2011 - we tried it out back then - the Slider is a 10.1in, 1280 x 800 screen on the back of which Asus has built a slide-forward base unit, complete with Qwerty keyboard.
Think of it as a netbook with a screen that closes over the keyboard facing outward rather rather than inward.
Netbook the Eee PC Slider may be, but it has no Atom chip at its heart. Instead there's a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU running Android 3.1 Honeycomb.
Asus promised a 3.2 update at some point in the future.
The Slider comes with 1GB of Ram, 16-32GB of Flash storage, 2.4GHz 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1. The unit has mini HDMI, USB and Micro SD portage. There's a 1.2Mp webcam and a 5Mp on the back.
Priced at £430 (16GB) and £480 (32GB), the Eee Pad Slider will go on sale in Dixons' PC World and Currys shops on 24 October. ®
