VIP Computer Centre swallows CMS Computers
Traditional channel boundaries blur as distie buys PC maker
PC and components distie VIP Computer Centre has acquired system assembler CMS Computers in a move that takes it into competition with trade clients.
Liverpool-based CMS employed 68 staff in fiscal 2010 ended 31 December and made a profit of £417,000 – flat with the previous year – on the back of a 10 per cent sales climb to £30m.
Jatti Sahni, chairman at VIP, claimed CMS is the "third largest" UK national PC maker, selling to the IT trade, resellers and retailers.
He said further acquisitions "within our chosen sectors" were likely to underpin its growth blueprint.
The terms of the deal were undisclosed but the acquisition takes VIP past the £200m sales threshold.
In the year ended 30 June 2010, VIP made a group operating profit of £2.8m, profit before tax of £2.87m and sales of £177m. ®
