Dymocks dances with Google

Adds frequent reader points programme

Australia’s largest bookstore retailer, Dymocks, has gotten into bed with Google introducing Google eBooks into the local market. The hook-up follows Google’s eBookstore launches in the UK and Canada. Google also announced yesterday that it is also launching its affiliate program in all three countries.

Under the association, Dymocks customers will be able to create a Google Bookshelf, which stores their library of eBooks online, directly via www.dymocks.com.au. Once customers have purchased a Google eBook from Dymocks, they can access it again anywhere with an internet connection, or download it to read offline.

Google says the eBookstore has partnered with “hundreds of local publisher partners at launch, including award-winning publishers like Allen & Unwin, Scribe, and Text Publishing, not to mention the many thousands of international publishers Google works with around the world.”

Dymocks’ General Manager of eCommerce Michael Allara said the book retailer has seen a steady increase in eBook purchases over the past five years, and believes the new Google eBooks partnership will further enhance the customer book-buying experience for Dymocks customers.

“This partnership with Google eBooks is a natural progression for us as we continue to innovate and expand our digital offering,” Allara said. Dymocks has extended its Booklover’s Rewards Program which will allow customers to earn points with each Google eBook purchase which can then be redeemed for future purchases from Dymocks – both in store and online. ®
