Kent county council stages developer compo

Wants complaints app, virtual bumwad-money scheme

Kent county council has launched a competition for local IT experts to develop new solutions for delivering public services.

It is offering £1,000 to each winner for the best innovations based on two ideas: using virtual tokens in a reward scheme for those helping others to get advice and support to take better care of themselves; and a phone app to report issues to local councils.

The council is running the competition at a Developing Solutions Camp hosted by Kent Connects, the county's partnership of public sector organisations.

Roger Gough, the county council's cabinet member for business strategy, performance and health reform, said: "This event is a great opportunity for information technology experts to show off their ideas and skills and help give the Kent public better services and improve their quality of life."

The event is being sponsored by Ordnance Survey and customer service company Kana, both of which will be involved in the judging.
