Nikon unveils mammoth megapixel DSLR

D800 does 36Mp

Nikon unveiled its much-anticipated FX-format D800 digital SLR camera this morning.

The Nikon D800 - successor to the company's D700 - has been upgraded to sport a 36.3Mp CMOS sensor feeding the Nikon's latest image processor, the Expeed 3.

The D800 features 1080p video recording with options for 24, 25 and 30fps frame rates, and 25, 50 and 60fps at 720p.

Nikon is touting the camera's professional audio capabilities for such use, with peak monitors and adjustable microphone sensitivity.

Other specs include a 3.2in, 921,000-dot LCD screen anbd a broad ISO range extendable to 25600. There's a USB 3.0 port too, two memory card slots and dustproof sealing for grime prevention.

The Nikon D800 goes on sale on 22 March for £2400.

An even snazzier model, the D800E, which packs a modified optical filter, will be available on 12 April for £2690. ®
