Tesco offers broadband for LESS THAN THE PRICE OF A PINT
Read the small print
Tesco is offering broadband for a mere £2.50 a month. It sounds like a good deal, but catches abound.
For a start, you have to possess a Tesco Clubcard, and you have to cough up for a £13.75 Tesco line rental fee each month.
Tesco touts the package as one that offers "unlimited downloads", but there is the inevitable fair use policy in place to prevent you from actually downloading as much as you like and "to keep customer usage within the normal limits expected when providing a residential broadband service".
Close inspection of the small print reveals there's a 100GB download limit imposed each month.
The £2.50 a month fee lasts for a year. After that, the price goes up to £6.50 a month.
On the plus side, apart from the low initial monthly broadband cost, there's no set-up fee and you get free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines. You get a wireless router too.
Tesco's offer is open until 31 May 2012. ®
