Azure's storage cloud was never at stake, insists storage cloud biz

It's the compute side that went titsup

Microsoft Azure's processing of bits in the cloud fouled up yesterday, but its storage of bits in the cloud was unaffected.

Andres Rodriguez, the CEO of cloud storage gateway supplier Nasuni, wants to tell everyone that Azure's cloud storage is first class, platinum-plated and absolutely A-OK.

Yesterday Azure's storage service did not, Nasuni's boss says, experience any outage. He said: "Cloud storage is a very different beast from cloud compute. Cloud compute and the cloud services such as Amazon EBS that depend on cloud compute are much younger technologies than basic bulk cloud storage and, as a result, are less stable.”

The Amazon storage cloud "was used internally at Amazon for over a decade. It stores billions of objects with over 99.9 per cent availability and 99.999999999 per cent of data durability. Azure cloud storage is also very stable."

He says his judgment is backed up by two years of cloud storage test data – so carry on buying Nasuni gateways and don't worry about Azure's cloud storage, it's as safe as houses...

It makes you wonder how many customers have been in touch today. ®
