The glow-screened 3.1million pixel iPad has been flying off shelves even faster than either of the two previous iPads on its opening weekend. Apple has announced sales of 3 million new iPads in the four days since the tablet's launch in 12 countries on 16 March.
It took the first iPad seven weeks to reach sales of 1 million. Apple didn't reveal initial sales for the second iPad.
“The new iPad is a blockbuster," said Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller in a congratulatory statement. “Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can't wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”
The "resolutionary" new device will launch in 24 more countries – including Mexico, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and Greece – on Friday 23 March. ®
