Telstra sparks up Reach cable
More capacity for anticipated demand
Telstra International has deployed a 40 Gbps DTN solution for the Reach optical subsea network in Asia, using Infinera gear.
The installation spans approximately 9,000 kilometers between Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.
Infinera’s DTN platform allows service providers to upgrade existing submarine cables with coherent 40 Gbps waves supporting FlexCoherent.
The solution is upgradable in the future to 100 Gbps FlexCoherent, including Soft Decision Forward Error Correction, which will deliver 7.3 terabits per second of capacity over Telstra’s Reach North Asia Loop (RNAL) fiber plant.
Telstra International Group Chief Operating Officer, Martijn Blanken said, “Telstra operates one of the largest and most diverse networks in Asia Pacific. We are confident we have invested in a network that will accommodate the needs of our customers now and into the future. ”
In March Telstra and its Asian JV partner PCCW completed the restructure of their subsea cable joint venture, Reach. The restructure resulted in Telstra International gaining direct control of subsea cable assets including the Reach North Asia Loop. The company has also acquired control over more global backhaul systems and POPs, extra satellite and PSTN capacity and a Global Roaming Exchange platform.
