RIM begs app devs to fish it out of BlackBerry jam
Coders set 'unconference' agenda in May
RIM's app-makers will be treated to an "unconference" at their yearly "BlackBerry Jam" held in Orlando, Florida, between 1 and 3 May.
The third day of the 10th developer bash will ditch normal conventions and put the agenda to a vote in a "participant-driven" attempt to generate great new ideas - or so the announcement on the BlackBerry Developer Blog goes.
But it might take more than an unmeeting to undo RIM's recent unsuccesses.
Faced with falling profits, ferocious competition from Android and iPhone, and a minor public relations crisis sparked by a stabbing at a Jessie J concert celebrating BBM yesterday, BlackBerry need some big ideas.
Perhaps a little stumped themselves, the RIM dev relations team has turned to its coding community for help.
"Now I’m excited to get to share our latest news," a RIM officer gushes, adding:
We are asking for your ideas for session topics and to vote on the topics that most interest you. We’ve talked a lot about wanting to engage with the developer community and to show that we are listening, and this is another great way to build on that commitment.
And as El Reg's Andrew Orlowski points out, although Blackberry's OS 10 is out now, there won't be any shiny new kit running it until November. If RIM wants new ideas, it should read our man on getting its CEO to talk like a human here. ®
