Punters want BBC iPlayer in TVs, not 3D
Consumers rank their favoured telly technologies
Brits want catch-up services from their tellies, not 3D, a survey carried out by Freeview has found.
The digital TV brand asked 2000 punters to rank the telly technology they most want to see in their sets.
Top of the list, appealing to 62 per cent of respondents: catch-up services like BBC iPlayer and 4oD.
Compare that to 3D, much touted by TV makers and the movie business, which appeals to only 19 per cent of the folk Freeview asked.
And only 16 per cent of punters consider 3D useful. That compares to the 63 per cent who reckon catch-up content is useful, the 53 per cent who see utility support for home networks and the 56 per cent who want to see better EPGs.
Freeview said its poll showed similar results across demographic lines.
Only mobile TV technology, and TV-centric smartphone and tablet apps fared less well than 3D, scoring 12 per cent and six per cent, respectively, for appeal, and 15 per cent and eight per cent, for utility. ®
