Workers relying on Atlassian's cloudy team-tracking software have reverted to whiteboards and spreadsheets after a service outage made key project data vanish.
A Reg reader contacted us to say firms using Atlassian’s JIRA service had lost their all data, and said Atlassian had been unable to recover it despite a week of trying.
“They have reverted to whiteboards and spreadsheets,” our reader said.
JIRA provides bug- and task-tracking, source-code management, activity monitoring and reports on project status.
Customers of the 10-year-old company’s JIRA service include American Airlines, the BBC, Facebook, Hulu and Oracle.
An Atlassian spokesperson contacted by The Reg blamed the loss on the failure of “multiple” storage disks at its cloud storage provider on 28 April.
Atlassian reckoned 52 customers who used its “legacy” Software-as-a-Service architecture were hit, while none of those on its OnDemand offering were affected. OnDemand was launched in October.
The spokesperson said Atlassian is working with customers who have lost data, its data centre provider and “data recovery experts” to restore users' services as quickly as possible.
“We are also continuing to work with our third-party data centre provider to fully investigate the issue,” the spokesperson said. ®
