Hordes turn to Google+ ... only joking

Twitter has been experiencing service wobbles for approximately half an hour, booting millions of users off the hyperactive short-form social network. The outage appears to be ongoing.

An update to the Twitter Status page at 4.45pm UK time, 11:45am New York time read:

Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.

Tweets that were getting through – largely from mobile apps and the mobile website – focused predominantly on how Twitter wasn't working. MsTcambot wrote:

the mobile web Twitter thing is up, so I'm sending this tweet into the murky unknown, like a message in a bottle to a sea of ones and zeros.

Reports suggest that people desperate to post short sentences about the weather and photos of their coffee have turned to Facebook, even Google+. Surely not. ®
