AGIMO issues invitation to cloud party

New guidelines and panel fling feds forward to the fluff

The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) has made two significant cloud-related announcements.

The most significant is a new Approach to Market process for would-be-providers of cloud services to Australia’s federal government.

The prize for such providers is a place on the “Data Centre as a Service (DCaaS) Multi Use List for Cloud, Cloud-Like and managed computing services”. That makes the full acronym DCaaSMULfCCLaMCS, which rolls off the tongue like a brick.

Those who pass through the Approach to Market approach unscathed will emerge as an approved supplier of either PaaS, SaaS or IaaS to federal government agencies.

A place on that list could also mean the chance to help power what AGIMO has taken to calling a “Community Cloud”, an arrangement whereby agencies share a private cloud. The Office has also issued final guidance explaining just how agencies should construct and govern this sort of thing, available here. ®
