Sony posts, pulls PlayStation Store update
Revamp's 'teething troubles' vex users
Sony pulled its new-look PlayStation Store from the UK yesterday after a barrage of complaints from users.
The firm has now postponed the refresh in several countries and reverted the Store to its old design until it fixes "teething problems".
Those who installed the update say it was buggy, full of random crashes and had frequent issues with account authentication. Come on, Sony, we were privy to this upcoming PSN Store design back in July 2011, you've had plenty of time to get things right.
“The phased launch of the new PlayStation Store has been temporarily postponed in some territories as teething issues related to the global roll-out of the Store are being addressed and resolved,” said a Sony spokesman.
“It is really important to us that the best possible Store experience is delivered and we appreciate your patience as we resolve these matters."
It was hoped Sony's store update would solve the PS Plus subscription problems that various European customers have faced for months now. In fact, it was alleged that the incoming refresh was the reason Sony hadn't acted on these issues already. It looks like you'll be waiting a little longer for that fix, chaps.
While the redesigned PlayStation Store is already live in a number of countries, it appears the UK will now have to join the back of the queue. The new store is set to launch stateside on 23 October. ®
