Super-thin iMacs WILL be here for Xmas, cram warehouses even NOW

Oh Santa, you scared me! fanbois gasp

Smooth white boxes carrying super-thin iMacs are already in American distribution centres, 9to5Mac reports, pouring soothing balm on the hearts of fanbois who had previously feared that the hyper-honed desktop may be delayed until 2013.

The new iMac launched on 23 October, when Apple made much of its stir-friction welded aluminium edges. The solid-state joining process (the metal is not melted) allows a super-slim edge of just 5mm.

But a rumour from a French blog MacBidouille suggested that it was just this high-tech welding that was delaying the arrival of the machines, pushing the launch of both the 21.5-inch model and the 27-inch model back towards the end of December or the New Year.

Thankfully ANOTHER rumour - from "inside sources" who spoke to All-things-Apple site 9to5Mac this time - promised that Apple Macs would not be delayed.

The insiders claimed that both should be out, as promised, within a matter of weeks. The 21.5-inch iMac should be in stores by the end of November, with the 27-inch iMac on sale from the beginning of December.

According to 9to5's sources, the Macs are already sitting in US distribution centres just waiting to be driven out to the shops. ®
