CloudFront and Route 53 customers come to South Korea

Developers and businesses keen to reach customers in the the most connected country on the planet received a boost this week after Amazon Web Services announced a South Korean edge location in Seoul for its CloudFront and Route 53 platforms.

The cloudy giant’s sixth location in Asia and 40th globally will help accelerate the delivery of content to the peninsula and speed the resolution of DNS queries originating there.

The firm added in a brief blog post:

If your application already uses CloudFront or Route 53, your customers in the area will benefit from this location with no action on your part (with the small caveat that you can use the Price Classes feature to trade latency for cost if necessary).

This is a "Price Class 200" location, with pricing that matches our existing locations in Asia.

CloudFront is AWS’s web service for the delivery of dynamic, static and streaming content, while Route 53 as the name suggests is the firm’s service for managing DNS records and resolving queries.

As the success of both depend on low latency another edge location in Asia will be welcomed by customers operating in the region.

AWS touted Samsung’s Smart Hub streaming platform, online gaming firm Nexon Korea and internet portal biz Daum Communications as early customers which will benefit from the announcement.

South Korea is regularly described as the most connected nation on the planet, and last October the ITU labelled it the world's most advanced ICT economy.®
