Faulty hardware at data-centre operator Phoenix NAP has knackered storage systems for customers' virtual machines.
A message on the cloud-hosting biz's status page blamed the outage on equipment at its data centre in Amsterdam. The service fell over at 5pm MST, or midnight UK time, on Tuesday.
Amsterdam is one of three Phoenix NAP data centers, the others being in Asburn, Virginia, and the company’s home down of Phoenix, Arizona. The outage is understood to have affected customers as far afield as the Philippines.
A message on Phoenix NAP’s status page posted last night stated that its engineering teams “are currently working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We will provide you with an update as soon as new information becomes available”.
By this morning, there was no solution in sight and the company had resorted to calling in the server manufacture to diagnose the problem and find a fix to restore customers’ VM services. Neither the server maker nor the type of machine were identified by the company in its status update.
The company issued an apology for the delayed fix: “We apologize for the extended interruption in service you might be experiencing during this outage. services to your [virtual machines].” It also promised to provide updates via the status page. ®
