Gorillas, StorageBeers, sexy flash models: It's all here in Speaking in Tech
Someone's actually USING Google+ Hangouts ... it's the Reg podcast team
Podcast
It's another episode of El Reg's podcast, bringing you news, views, and rumours about enterprise kit, hot flash models (the enterprise kind, don't be a perve), consumer baubles, hip-hop gorilla memes, next week's StorageBeers (at London's Lamb and Flag pub from about 17:30 on 25 September, all welcome) and more...
Hanging out in – yes, it's true – a live Google+ Hangout this week are all three SIT presenters: Greg Knieriemen, Sarah Vela and Ed Saipetch. This week the podcast was recorded from a live Google+ Hangout with special guest Vaughn Stewart, formerly of NetApp, currently at Pure Storage and, apparently, often snugly zipped up in a gorilla suit.
The crew chat about hurdles to adopting flash storage – mostly money and the fact that enterprise bods don't want to spend it; how VCs are so happy to fund hardware startups but keep the wallet firmly shut when it comes to software and services plays; and how Vaughan worked his way up from the mailroom installing filers to where he is today (see vid below)...
This week we discuss:
- VMworld recap and best parties
- Ed's CloudBeat recap
- Vaughn leaves NetApp for Pure Storage
- The Gorilla Suit
- Vaughn's mom
- Chromecast giveaaway
- VMworld Barcelona
- StorageBeers in London, 25 September
- Ed's bed
- EMC's big announcement
