HP gazes at own navel in UK boss search: We name tipped contenders

It's a two horse race to the top, say Reg sources

Folk inside HP are placing bets on which exec will fill the boots soon to be vacated by UK boss Nick Wilson. Long-standing loyalists Andy Isherwood and Martin Hess are said to be the main contenders.

The ink is still drying on HP UK managing director Wilson's new employment contract: he will be transferred to Australia where he will be general manager for Enterprise Services and managing director of the South Pacific region.

Word on the street is that no headhunters were enlisted to find the next bigwig, suggesting an internal replacement is being lined up. And our sources reckon that HP staff view it as a two-horse race.

Isherwood, who has spent more than two decades at Hewlett-Packard, is senior veep for worldwide sales service and support. He's operated in the software, services and hardware divisions, and it's this experience that could give him the edge.

Meanwhile, Hess once ran HP's direct services sales force, and was tipped for the top before Wilson came aboard four years ago. He has held various senior roles in the Technology Service division and is veep for Enterprise Services, formerly known as EDS.

Well-placed sources suggest it is highly likely that one of the duo will be made UK boss in the not-too-distant-future as Wilson departs on 1 November. Euro-level execs are overseeing the interview process.
