Funds flung at 9-inch fan-built Raspberry Pi monitor
High definition screen tin-rattling proves bounteously fruitful
It's hats off today to Alex Eames of RasPi.TV and Dave Mellor from Cyntech, who've Kickstarted their way in spectacular style to an "affordable 9-inch high-def screen for the Raspberry Pi".
Responding to popular demand, the enterprising duo set out to build a "small and portable" screen to take advantage of the fruity miniature computer's 1920x1080px output, and hit their £55,000 funding goal within a couple of days of commencing their tin-rattling.
The "HDMIPi" should ship in February 2014. The "early bird" version - featuring 9-inch HDMIPi 1280x800 LCD, driver board and plastic surround - could have been yours for a pledge of £65, although that offer has been snapped up by an eager 250 punters.
For £75, though, you can still get a "HDMIPi standard", or for a few bucks more, there are deluxe versions waiting to be enjoyed.
We note that Low Orbit Helium Assisted Navigator (LOHAN) team member and Pi wrangler Dave Akerman has been taking an interest in the project, having recently rigged a 4.3-inch screen balloon pursuit system using a Model A Pi.
We fear he may now be eyeing a system upgrade, to splash live vid feeds, telemetry, meteorological data, current wholesale helium price data, football results and the location of the nearest pizza restaurant across an HDMIPi. Watch this space... ®
