CMS Distribution swallows Interactive Ideas

Storage and open source software firms tie the knot

Specialist storage and CE wholesaler CMS Distribution has hoovered up open source distie Interactive Ideas for an undisclosed sum.

The buy of London-based Interactive adds vendors including RedHat, NetIQ and Solar Winds. "There is no vendor cross over," said Frank Salmon, CEO at CMS.

"The future of storage is open architecture, servers and appliances are already [running] on Linux... [and] more will ship," he told us.

Forty staffers will transfer to CMS including Interactive MD Mike Trup, who will scope out the integration plans and then review the situation, said Salmon. FD Graham Fernback has resigned, he added.

In the year to 30 April 2012 - the last filed at Companies House - Interactive Ideas turned over £35.5m up from £31.38m in the previous fiscal. It made an operating profit of £695k, up marginally on the previous 12 months

Salmon said the combined organisation has a turnover of £166m and forecasted sales of £200m by the end of calendar '14. ®
