Juniper Networks hires engineering expert as new CEO

Poaches tech chief Shaygan Kheradpir from Barclays PLC

Juniper Networks has hired a replacement for its CEO Kevin Johnson, who confirmed his plan to retire from the company in July this year.

The job has been handed to Shaygan Kheradpir, who has been poached from financial services provider Barclays PLC, where he worked as chief operations and technology officer.

Kheradpir previously held a similar role at Verizon Communications, where he was an original member of the team - so he has clearly earned his stripes in the tech biz.

One-time Microsoftie Johnson will remain on the board of Juniper Networks.

The networking kit outfit, which competes with Cisco, said that Kheradpir's "values and vision for the company align very tightly with our own, building a strong foundation for Juniper’s future".

He will start the top job at Juniper Networks in January. Kheradpir, who holds a PhD in electrical engineering, said he hopes "to drive the next phase of the company’s growth." ®
