Sony scoffs at the Microsoft EX-BOX: A MILLION PS4s sell in ONE day

Redmond takes one in the chops

Sony shifted one million Playstation 4s in the first day they went on sale in North America.

Although some users reported hardware issues, Sony's spring off the blocks bodes well for the release of their latest console in Europe and Latin America, which will take place on November 29.

The Japanese firm is hoping the Playstation reverses its poor fortunes. It returned to a loss in the last quarter as sales of PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable slumped and its profits dipped due to a price decrease on the Playstation Vita.

Sony has pipped its archrival Microsoft to the post with the release of its next-generation console, the Xbox One, which is expected to be priced $100 higher than the $399.99 Playstation 4.

After the strong sales, Sony bosses will no doubt be hoping to turn the competition's hardware into an ex-box, but we will have to wait until its release on November 22 to see how it performs. ®
