VMware wanted to keep its VSAN pricing secret – now it's all over the web

Price tags revealed with some Google-fu ahead of next week's reveal

VMware launched its VSAN virtual storage array today, and the feedback was generally positive – with one sticking point: VMware's decision to withhold pricing information until "the week of March 10."

The lack of official pricing is causing more than just snarky comments among IT buyers: many competing server SAN providers are waiting on the figures before they announce revised pricing and solidify their VSAN-response marketing pushes.

Etailers, however, often inadvertently leak pricing. So, armed with the VSAN SKU "ST-VSAN-G-SSS-C", we were able to find Basic Support/Subscription for VMware Virtual SAN 5 for 1 processor" and weighs in at AUD$804.88 ($732) at Australian outfit Itis.net.au at time of publication.

Flushed with that success, The Register took the liberty of finding a few more price lists, then rendering them as PDFs, from leaky sites in case the relevant information is withdrawn. Here are the results:

Bear in mind that until the official prices are announced, all of this is subject to change. VMware can do whatever it wants between now and "some time during the week of March 10." ®
