Bulls hit city streets after alleged Samsung ad shoot hits the fan

Pair of beasts walk through Sydney's hipster heaven

The hipster-infused suburb of Newtown in the Australian city of Sydney was today treated to the sight of two water buffalos walking down its main street, reportedly thanks to a SNAFU at a shoot for a Samsung advertisement.

News of the bovine visitation broke in the tweet below and the strolling beasts quickly became a talkback radio topic.

It's since been reported by a local Murdoch listicle-maker that the cattle broke out from a set on which a Samsung ad was being filmed.

The theory is plausible: Sydney Park, the reported scene of the shoot, is a well-used filming location because its sculpted hills are just a few kilometers from downtown Sydney and the burbs that house its film industry, yet can easily pass for verdant, rolling countryside.

Your correspondent spent years living a few meters from the area depicted in the Tweet and has witnessed film shoots in the Park. He can also hazard an educated guess that the picture was taken at the corner of King and Holt streets.

If the cattle did indeed escape the Park, it's a serious animal cruelty issue: King Street is a very busy street and its lower reaches are frequented by trucks and buses. The beasts would have had to negotiate at least four sets of traffic lights to reach the place in which they are depicted and were probably terrified for much of the journey.

Subsequent reports suggest wranglers from the set were able to round up the cattle.

We've asked Samsung if it was in any way responsible for the cattle, but are yet to receive a response. ®
