Google has added a new feature to its Google+ kinda-social network that identifies how many people have looked at your profile page, blog and photos on Google+.

"Starting today you’ll see a new number on your Google+ profile or page: total content views," said Eddie Kessler, a Google engineering manager. "This number is the sum of your profile, post and photo views since October 2012."

Kessler, whose own Google+ page boasts 13,467 followers and 487,918 views, said that the system is turned on by default, but the settings page that controls a user's profile can be used to disable it if you fancy a bit more privacy.

As you'd expect, Google CEO Larry Page comes out very well with the new tool - 8,165,424 followers and 29,787,797 views. A quick check on the Google+ pages of Vulture West journalists received rather lower figures – although, cough, relatively few people use the service.

Which is kind of the problem for Google+. While the Chocolate Factory talks a lot about the growth of the platform it's still very much an also-ran in the social networking sphere, and these new figures could show a lot of people how little people care about them on the platform. ®
