Security: Sweet brief for rare man Roche, new boss of Fujitsu TS

Tech Solutions coming to eat securobods' lunch?

Fujitsu company veteran Tom Roche has grabbed the chieftain's chair at the Technology Solutions unit with a specific brief to boost security sales.

The post became vacant last month when former boss Michael Keegan was made overlord of UK ops for Fujitsu, replacing Duncan Tait who was lifted to the head of the EMEIA organisation in a global restructure.

Roche is a 15-year employee of the Japanese giant where he's been public sector sales director, and ran the financial services and strategic alliances teams. He will now report to Keegan from the TS office.

Fujitsu breathed some new life into its Technology Solutions business in the wake of its buy-out of Siemens' stake in the joint venture and the new man in charge will look to continue that channel rebuilding work, with specific emphasis on the education and healthcare sectors.

"We'll also be putting a real focus into our security business," said Roche in a statement.

The firm runs its Information Security Services from the Network Services unit, selling firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, data loss revision, email and web security and VPN services.

"With high profile attacks reported continually in the media, it becomes clearer each day that security threatens businesses of all types and sizes. As a result we're seeing it creep further up the boardroom agenda".

In the spring, Fujitsu carved the business into five operations regions - Americas, Asia, Oceania, Japan and Europe, Middle East, Africa and India (EMEIA) to boost sales outside of its homeland.

The theory at least is that this hands more control to the heads of each of the territories, creates consistent governance and speeds decision making. ®
