Microsoft is scrambling to fix its Lync service after network problems left the platform inaccessible to users.
The company said Monday afternoon that it was dealing with what it called "routing infrastrcture issues" in attempting to restore service to the unified communications platform.

The issues began Monday morning when users on the East Coast of North America began exerpiencing service issues. Problems continued throughout the day, with users in other regions also reporting that they are unable to access Lync services.
Microsoft later issued a statement (via a company spokesperson) further outlining the problem.
Some users in North America are experiencing issues with Lync Online due to network routing infrastructure issues. In response, engineers have routed a portion of network traffic to an alternate datacenter which has restored service for some of our customers. We are committed to fixing this issue as quickly as possible and expect the service to be restored for all customers soon. Customers can get the latest Lync Online status through the admin Service Health Dashboard.
No further word has been given on when users can expect service to be fully restored.
The outages come as Microsoft is pushing an initiative to give users greater visibility into the inner workings of Office 365. The company said last week that it would be providing customers with a roadmap to shed light on new features being introduced as well as planned features and recently launched updates. ®
