LinkedIn settles missed overtime pay case: Will pay $6m to staffers

US Dept of Labor: It violated Fair Labor Standards Act

LinkedIn has agreed to pay around $6m in unpaid overtime wages and damages to 359 of its employees in four states after a US Department of Labor investigation.

The government agency found that the business networking firm had failed to record and account for all the hours their staff worked in a week, leaving some staff out of pocket on overtime pay. The department said that when LinkedIn was notified of its violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act, it agreed to settle up all the back pay and damages, as well as taking steps to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen again.

“This company has shown a great deal of integrity by fully cooperating with investigators and stepping up to the plate without hesitation to help make workers whole,” said Dr David Weil, administrator of the Wage and Hour Division.

“We are particularly pleased that LinkedIn also has committed to take positive and practical steps towards securing future compliance.”

LinkedIn will pay out over $3.3m in back wages for missed overtime payments and more than $2.5m in damages to folks in California, Illinois, Nebraska and New York as part of the settlement. ®
